Bella is struck down suddenly by a mysterious fever and a transformation that no one saw coming (mainly because this is set after Twilight and before the plot of New Moon). She's forced to adapt as she is abandoned by Edward, who seems unable to fathom a life with this new version of her. Unexpectedly moving in with the Quileute pack brings its own trials and tribulations as Bella comes to terms with a future she hadn't planned for.
Paul is barely getting used to his new life with the pack. A life with no secrets, never ending orders from his alpha and a quick temper that never fails to land him in more trouble.
