Summary
Stanley Pines wasn’t a smart man.
But he was pretty sure his hand wasn’t supposed to be on fire.
However, instead of what one might imagine would be a ‘normal response’ to waking up with one’s hand engulfed in shifting blue flames, that is, perhaps screaming in terror, leaping up in a panic, and jumping into the nearest lake, Stan just let out a tired, irritated sigh.
He was really too old for this.

A bit of Bill's power has transferred over to Stan... What could go wrong?!

When Stanley gets a strange postcard from his twin brother, he doesn't hesitate to haul ass up to Oregon to come and help Ford with whatever he needs, even if he is a bit nervous to see the Alpha after all these years.
It will be fine. His suppressors are working. Ford will never know that he's not the Beta his family assumed he was. He'll keep his shit together, ignore the need to have a pack again, and try and make up for ruining Ford's life.

Unfortunately, when his brother stepped out of the portal he was...strange. Cagey. Weird. If Ford was an animal, Stan might even say feral.

Summary
Stan didn’t know what he expected. Just a larger version of the kid he had known in high school, really. Sure they were identical, but Stan hadn’t been the person who looked like his brother in a long time. New scars, constant stubble, greasy mullet, dirty clothes, couple new teeth…He wasn’t exactly his best self. Ford seemed to be doing just fine, last he heard, what with his fancy house up in the Pacific Northwest wilderness, so he had assumed that he would be more…stable.
He noted his shaking hands, the relentless pacing he had picked up, back and forth through the room like a caged animal. He took in the unshaved face, the sunken eyes with dark shadows so deep they may as well be bruises. He looked pale and skinny, like he hadn’t been eating enough. Still, Ford stared ahead, hands clutching a book he had picked up during his rambles, eyes flicking back and forth like he was reading the blank air.
What was this guy so afraid of way out here?
In which there's slightly more communication when Stan first comes to Gravity Falls, and it makes all the difference.

Summary
Stanford and Stanley Pines, freshly sixteen, are flung forward into 1983 after fighting over a half-broken time tape that neither of them wanted to be fighting over. Their relationship, usually so concrete, had begun to strain - and the argument over the time machine gets out of hand. The future is not what either of them expects to find.
Stanford, stranded in New Mexico and utterly alone, finds himself out of his depth when he comes across a much older version of his brother who is homeless and struggling to make ends meet.
Stanley, stranded in Oregon and burned by the broken time tape, has his worst fears confirmed when he finds an older version of his brother who is driven to the brink by paranoia and forces unknown.
