One moment they’d been fine, tight unit manoeuvring with ease through enemy territory, clearing buildings and neutralising threats. The next? Soap rubbed the back of his hand across his face, smearing sweat and dirt. He was filthy, covered in fluids not all his own. A hazard of the job. At least the helmet kept the worst of the building debris out of his hair.
He supposed it didn't matter really, it was a hopeless, rhetorical question. He knew exactly what had gone down, and hated every fucking minute of it.

Roach is lurking by the pool. He can hear water lapping at the edges, the splash of strong strokes powering through the silence of the otherwise deserted building. The base itself is exceptionally quiet. A lot of the buildings are locked, illuminated only by emergency lights. Most of the troops are on mandated leave, and a fair chunk of the remainder are out on various ops. There's no one left to bother him and his skulking.

This was the sort of place you went with mates, or with someone you'd been seeing for a while, as a laugh. Not for your first date. A blind first date, at that.
The 141 sounded fancy. Like a middle class, low lighting sort of restaurant that sold nice whiskey and perfectly cooked steaks.
It turned out the 141 was some sort of Hooters wannabe, with hosts of the female and male persuasion. And they all wore the same tight fitting, skimpy uniforms.

She bit her lower lip and rubbed her legs together again, the fabric of her skirt feeling particularly abrasive today. Possibly because she was overheated and sweating, legs sticking to the uncomfortable chair. Evidently there was a heating issue in the usually crisp library. How was no one else hot? A quick, surreptitious glance at the neighbouring desks revealed a motley of house scarves and jumpers masquerading as students. Preposterous.
She fanned at her face, sure her cheeks were bright red. She gripped her quill tighter, smearing ink and almost cracking the delicate shaft as her traitorous brain turned yet again to hot breath against her cheek, and the curl of a tongue around her index and middle finger.
