But the problem is, the feelings aren’t entirely one-sided. She can’t afford to be distracted, god knows that. Relationships are messy and she’s never been any good at it. Still, the way Clark Kent is staring at her, all too serious, filled with too much wounding devotion, she fears what he’s going to say because she’s always thought he’s perpetually one step shy of declaring his feelings for her — and she doesn’t entirely know what her response will be. Lois usually has her answers for everything.
He steps forward. “I need to tell you something, Lois. Something I should have told you a long time ago.”
And then, moving slowly, deliberately, he takes off his glasses — and just like that, Lois Lane’s entire world tilts off its axis.

When Clark Kent joins the Daily Planet, to say Lois Lane is unconvinced is the understatement of the year. That wholesome, apple-pie earnestness might play well in Smallville, but here? Metropolis will chew him up in two deadlines or less— she’s seen it happen before and it isn't a pretty sight.
Three months into the cape-and-rescue business, Clark is still figuring out how to do this right. Working as a reporter is the perfect cover— Superman might save lives in the spotlight, but he gets to listen to the people he tries his best to protect. For now, he sticks to what he knows: trial and error, a little fortune spent on dry-cleaning bills, and trying to land on Lois's good side.
They shouldn't work— she questions everyone and everything; he trusts everyone and finds beauty in everything. But somewhere between the day-to-day newsroom chaos, the Superman-sized threats, and the exhausting business of being alive, they end up operating as a team— with the dangerous inevitability of two people who were always going to collide.
Loosely inspired by the James Gunn movie, this is my take on this iconic duo. Mostly an office romance with lots of fluff, hurt/comfort, and family drama.

She towered over him and attached her lips to his again, swallowing the whine that escaped him.
