Summary
Finding an unconscious Bilbo in the thick of battle, Legolas takes him to the elf encampment to have the hobbit healed. Through that gesture began a series of events that leads to the revelation of Bilbo's pregnancy and an advise that urges Thranduil to keep Bilbo's survival a secret until the hobbit says he is ready. Of course, his best course of action for that was not to name Bilbo as Elf-Friend but Elf-Kin.
Unfortunately, he did not take determined Dwarven Kings, Princes and the like into account.

Guilty of the way he had treated his One, Thorin casts his pride aside to ask for the Woodland Realm's help in finding the Company's burglar in order to make amends at the very least. Not believing Bilbo could forgive him, Thorin wishes to earn the hobbit's trust and love once more even if it means casting tradition aside and courting his One in the ways of the hobbits
Unfortunately, Bilbo may be willing to forgive the Company and Thorin in words, his mind and heart is not yet ready to let go of the trauma and harm inflicted upon him.

“Say something”, pleads Elrond.
Nothing.
“How could you let me do this to you? Why would you let me do this to you? How can you stand still as a statue while somebody rips your body to shreds? The pain must be terrible. You don’t say a word, you don’t flinch, you don’t even change your expression, you just take it…” Elrond’s voice is raising, his heart speeding up. He wants none of it, so he trails off. Besides, this has no point, Thranduil’s face is an unresponsive mask.
“That is why I am The King.” Thranduil’s words come slowly, quietly but are clear, and as silken as ever. His voice is horse, but it does not shake. And Elrond understands that he speaks quietly simply because he feels no need to shout. The King is still on his knees, but he might as well be sitting on his throne.
Thranduil makes him wait before he continues, “As to why? Because I can take it and you apparently need it.”

It was all they had done since his mother died and his father took this new job. In fact, Legolas had lived at so many addresses in the past year alone that he could not count them on all of his fingers and toes combined. On the bright side, he has gotten to see most of Middle Earth despite only being in his early teens. On the not-so-bright-side was… everything else. It was hard to make friends while always being on the road. It was even harder to make friends when you couldn't tell them a single thing about yourself or your father other than that you exist.
