Summary
Sister Beatrice would not admit that she knew about those paperback novels where innocent but plucky heroines were delighted to be kidnapped and ravaged by improbably attractive pirates.
And she would never admit that she actually had read many of those novels, one of them tucked away and disguised in the covers of a prayer book under her pillow. She had read it so many times in fact that pages of it were falling out and it was very used and worn.
But the thing she would never ever admit even under threat of death, the reason she had taken her vows in the first place, was that every time she read that book, imagining herself in the place of the heroine, she saw the pirates as women instead of men.
Or: Ava and the others are sort of pirates and Beatrice is a nun. When their paths cross in a way Beatrice would never have dreamt of (or maybe she had, but that is her secret to keep), she is suddenly confronted with the question whether she actually wants those things she only ever fantasized about or whether she'd rather keep them a fantasy.
