Summary
Since first meeting in a creative program eleven years ago, Josh and Tyler have grown alongside a tight-knit group of friends. Though distance keeps them apart most of the year, the six of them reunite every summer and on occasional holidays, maintaining a lasting connection. As one of their own prepares to get married, the group gathers once again. But beneath the celebrations, Josh and Tyler find themselves at a turning point, no longer able to ignore feelings they’ve carried for years.
Set during a friend’s wedding, the present-day narrative frames the story, which is told predominantly through flashbacks spanning eleven years of Josh and Tyler’s relationship and how they got here.

Summary
tyler joseph considered himself your average, run-of-the-mill college student. he enjoyed spending time with his brothers in sigma chi, basketball, and fucking nearly every night. he came from a well off family, and was attending ohio state on a basketball scholarship. completely normal. but when his acl gets torn the first practice of the season, his world gets flipped upside down.
surgery, then months of physical therapy. he hated it all.what he hated most, though, was his physical therapist, and how he made him feel.

josh dun considered his life to be relatively normal. he maintained good grades, worked in the physical therapy clinic, and played drums for fun. he was at the top of the exercise science program, and had a good shot at getting into a great grad school. but there was one thing that didn’t fit into josh’s relatively normal life.
he was gay.
of course, no one knew this. and he’d keep it that way. no dating, no boys, not until he was out of college.
at least, that was his plan, until a certain patient who somehow always had a scowl on his face, became a big part of his life.

Summary
Tyler was not one to challenge the familiar.
He didn’t think it was necessary, to break the routine—not when the routine was what kept him going. He clocked into his job, smiled at co-workers and customers, drove home with the music as loud as he could handle it. He gave his mom a kiss as he walked through the front door. Prayers around the dinner table, his father’s low, rumbling voice leading them all through held hands and amens. No, Tyler did not challenge the familiar.
His days blurred together this way—he moved through them like it was second nature. Work during the week, off on the weekends, church on Sunday. Knees touching tile, eyes closed, prayers to God.
"Just give me a reason to stay."
He opened his eyes, still on his knees, looking up at the ceiling. He tried to see through it, to somehow come face to face with God. The ceiling remained, as sure as the cold tile beneath his knees. No one was listening to him. No one was coming to save him. No one ever had before.
Tyler didn't anticipate the reason he was searching for to come in the shape of a boy with blue hair and a grin.
