“Please,” Jungkook sobs, shaking violently, “p-please don’t, please -”
The king hefts the jewel with a sneer, then in one swift, merciless motion, he slams it against Jungkook’s bare chest at the same moment the court sorcerer roughly yanks the chain binding the rattling chain of bruising steel manacles around Jungkook’s wounded wrists.
Silence erupts around them, a pinprick of unnatural calm preceding a malevolent, vicious hurricane. Then with a roaring wail, Jungkook’s furious magic crashes back into him as he throws his head back and screams, and everything explodes outwards from where he’s bound. The walls tilt and sway, the space between them growing, shrinking, lilting. The guards cry out and scramble for handholds as the very air around them warps, twisting. Arthur closed his eyes, expression riddled with irritation before turning to look at Merlin expectantly.
"Know what?"
“The mare I use. You know I call her Daisy? I never told you that." Merlin explained. Arthur stared for a few moments. He could see the flicker of emotions pass easily over him. Anger, annoyance, exasperation, indignance, and finally acceptance...AKA the Five Stages of Grief (Pendragon Edition).
"You talk to the horse.” He pointed out. Merlin narrowed his eyes.
“I whisper to the horse."
"...am I supposed to not hear it?” Arthur asked. Merlin wondered how likely it would be that he also heard him whispering magical spells if he heard him murmuring to the bloody horse. “Also, only you would choose such a ridiculous name.” He muttered. Merlin swallowed. This wasn't a problem at all, right? Right.

When Arthur looked into the future, he had always believed Merlin would be there, irreverent and irritating, helping him dress or fetching his meals or tagging along on quests whether he was invited or not. Now, he saw a different path, one where Merlin gave up the job he had never wished for in the first place – one that gained him very little pay, recognition or thanks – and pursued his own ambitions.

“The mermaids are foolish enough to succumb to the most pathetic weakness. Love.” The captain sneers, and he kicks the scratched wooden door open with a slam.
Jimin gasps, and his hands fly up to clap over his mouth, heart slamming into his throat. The chains are blood-soaked, and wound so cruelly tightly around the boy hanging limply from them, bruised wrists and battered chest and a cruel collar viciously locked around his neck, chained to the wall behind him. But above everything, Jimin’s wide eyes and heaving lungs are caught on the enormous tail, deep purple iridescent scales, chained heavily and locked against the wooden slats at their feet. His bare torso is marred with dark bruising, littered with slashes, and his head hangs as if unconscious against his chest, long dark hair covering his face as he stirs weakly.
“See, those beasts I told you about?” The captain drawls, smug and aloof. “There’s six of them, with the power to take down any ship and capture any treasure and best any man, any king. And me?”
The captain leans down until his hard-lined face is inches from the mermaid’s, smirking when he flinches back with a quiet gasp and throwing Jimin a darkly victorious grin. “I have their youngest.” -

“You aren’t allowed to hunt?” Mingi asked. “Like— at all? What if something happens to your blood supply?”
Yeosang shrugged. “We starve,” he deadpanned.
“Vampires are ruthless, bloodthirsty monsters,” Hongjoong bit out. “The only way they’re allowed to hunt is if they’re a part of a pack because they need to be kept in check. I can’t imagine what sort of delusional pack would want the burden of bloodsuckers though.”

Seonghwa will do anything to keep his fledglings safe. Anything. Hongjoong's top priority has always been and will always be the safety and well-being of his packmates.
They learn they're not as dissimilar as they once believed themselves to be. And they could perhaps be more if they allow themselves to trust one another.
