    (The hairs on the back of his neck stand up and a chill runs down his back. He dismisses it, thinking it’s because of the cold metal bedframe.)
    “Yes, HYDRA. Our home.”

    When Tony recruited Spider-Man during the debacle of the Sokovia Accords, he never thought it would lead to anything else but a mentorship; giving the boy a suit and a few pointers here and there. He never dreamt that Peter would charm his way into Tony’s life, claiming a spot right next to Morgan. For a while, it looked like the universe finally gave Tony a break.

    Until Spider-Man suddenly disappears.

    For two years, Tony doesn’t stop looking for him, doing everything in his power to bring the boy back. But to no avail. It’s like the earth opened up and swallowed him, leaving behind nothing but a Peter-shaped hole in Tony’s heart.

    Then, during one mission, they meet a HYDRA agent who can stick to walls and has a very familiar face.

    Happy hurries into the penthouse and finds Tony, Pepper, and Peter standing in the kitchen, Tony aiming his repulser at Peter. “Tony! What are you doing?”

    "Intruder. Had my back turned making coffee and I turned around and he was just sitting there."

    “That’s not an intruder, it’s Peter. What’s wrong with you? Lower that thing before somebody gets hurt.”

    “I’ve never seen this kid before. How'd he slip past security?"

    "This is Peter Parker Stark, your son. You adopted him."

    “I adopted some random kid?”

    Peter’s breath hitches and his shoulders fall. He wants to press his face into Happy’s back and cry. “Not some random kid,” Happy says, voice hard. “Your kid. Peter.”

    OR

    Tony spent five years mourning Peter after he'd been snapped. He'd invented time travel to bring him back, almost died, had risked everything for him. When Peter is snapped back to life, he can't believe that the Starks actually want him to be part of their family. He spends six months doubting it. He's finally starting to believe that they want and love him when he wakes up one morning and comes out of his room to find that Tony and Pepper don't remember him at all, even though everyone else does.

    Tony tries to mind his own business, he really does - but when he finds out someone sneaks into one of the rooms of the vacant Stark Tower, he gets curious. Especially when he sees the footage of said someone climbing the outside of the Tower by sticking to the smooth surface to reach the room on the 92nd floor. But when he finds the blood in that room, the concept of “minding his own business” is quickly thrown out of the window.

    That’s how Tony finds himself trying to befriend the costumed vigilante who comes and goes as he pleases and seems to have a talent for getting stabbed and - wait, how old is he?
