"David, he– He was dead!" Michael reminded everyone. All eyes were on him now, but he didn't care. He was pretty sure the situation called for a moment where at least one of them got to freak out.
"He belongs to me, Michael. They all do." Max explained matter-of-factly, and the possessiveness hardly hidden in his tone threatened to make Michael sick. Max spoke about the boys like they were property rather than people. "And they won't know death until I allow it."

Summary
She puts the cup to her lips and drinks it empty. It tastes how she expects; like salt and iron and a little bit like David, but it burns as it goes down, settling in her chest with a strange warmth.
The floor erupts in cheers, all surrounding her. Paul pulls her into a hug first, then Dwayne, and finally David. He holds onto her a little longer, and whispers in her ear:
“You won’t regret this, Star. I mean it.”
As he pulls away, looking down at her with eyes full of promise, Star really hopes he’s right.

Eventual canon divergence focusing heavily on the relationship between Star/David/Michael and all associated messiness.

“No,” Michael answers, immediately, honestly. The truth pounds painfully against his chest, but he can’t begin to say it. Because, God help him, Michael misses them too.

The Lost Boys are dead, Max is gone, Star and Michael are human, and the Emersons are safe at last. This doesn't change the fact that some things are still haunting the survivors.
Star grieves and tries to figure out the rest of her life, Michael refuses to interrogate his feelings, Sam attempts to reach out to his family who won't tell him anything, Lucy criticizes her own decisions, the Frog Brothers encounter a strange figure on the boardwalk, and some bodies refuse to stay buried for long.
