In 'Hermione, the Holmes', I originally intended for Hermione not to befriend Harry (or Ron) on the Hogwarts Express. But the story had other plans, going off in a completely different direction, thwarting both Voldemort and me.
This is not that story.
Halloween, 1994. Harry's name has been drawn from the Goblet of Fire; Ron turns his back on him, leaving Harry without a friend in the school. Except there's someone who does believe in him: Hermione Granger, who runs a study group, and offers to take him in and help him survive the Triwizard Tournament.
But how long can such harmony last, when the study group has students from all four houses?

Prompt: Nick Clegg is a rentboy that agrees for quite a lot of money to go and live with posh, rich, powerful politician/lobbyist/whatever David Cameron for two years, and pretend to be his boyfriend to improve his popularity ratings or something. During which time, there is plenty of sex, Nick stubbornly makes David into a better, more compassionate person, and they totally fall for each other even though they also have one of those fighting, snarky relationships so they refuse to admit it.
Before the end of the two year relationship, David uses his political influence to reform laws about prostitution to treat sex workers more fairly and with more dignity, which would make life a lot better for Nick and his friends and was part of the initial deal (= voting reform). But this is kinda bittersweet because by the end of their arrangement they don't want to stop being together.
I kind of followed that.

Summary: Lord Freud said some awful things about people with disabilities at a fringe meeting of the Conservative Party conference in October 2014. Ed Miliband called David Cameron out on it in Prime Minister’s Question time that week. It was such an angry exchange that my narrative senses went off and this fic was written. All conjecture, no offence intended.
Warnings: Mentions the death of a child, and some sexual references. Oh and there's swearing. A lot of it.

Having said that, Mycroft withdrew his gaze and looked down, adjusting the cuff of his sleeve so that it fell neatly over his wrist. There were marks there—several of them—but Lestrade knew now was not the time to bring them up.
“If I hadn’t promised your brother,” Lestrade said quietly, “I really ought to arrest you right now.”
“You can’t arrest me because you work for me, Lestrade,” Mycroft replied evenly. “And I assure you, if I were to lose my current position and authority, my successor would make your life far more unpleasant than it already is.”
