Summary
The owner of one of Kent’s beloved boutique plant shops is a known bisexual disaster. The ‘For Lease’ sign in the window next door has been up for months, and Nick is dying to turn his little block into a queer destination with the assistance of the owners of the café across the street, girlfriends/meddlers Tara and Darcy.
Charlie is excited to finally open his queer bookstore with best friend Isaac. But at the same time, he's wrestling his way out of a bad relationship, and can't quite accept the kindness that the store owner next door extends to him while he stresses over his on-again, off-again boyfriend.
aka another AU loosely based on Alice Oseman’s minicomic Flower Shop, but add in a sprinkle of bookshop AU and a pinch of coffeeshop AU, and a whole lot of mutual pining.
Featuring trans!Charlie because I love him.

Summary
Charlie is a 23 year old living in a punk house in Portland, Oregon some time in the 2010s. He’s graduated from therapy, he’s got a great group of people in his life, he’s politically active, and he’s got a fantastic sense of fashion. And he refuses to let anyone dim his shine anymore, not after being forced back into the closet again and again by a series of horrible exes and an equally horrible mother. But what happens when heavily tattooed, chronically-single Charlie sees a clean cut all-American boy walk into a community organizing meeting who won’t stop looking at him with his kind hazel eyes?
This story is noncanonical and a big departure from Heartstopper but equally as saccharine, albeit rougher around the edges. Many scenes are inspired directly by Heartstopper, but this is a completely alternate universe where our characters are dropped into a completely different set of circumstances, on the same timeline as the comics. Namely, they are anarchists in America. See the endnotes for more about the inspiration behind this story.

Leisurely conversation comes so readily, it’s as if Charlie has known these two Nelsons his whole life.
Charlie wishes he had known these two his whole life.
He hopes he will know them for the rest of it.
Furthermore, it’s ok to hang onto complicated memories, and not just the happy ones. After all, ‘there’s power in bad memories, because bad memories contribute to today’s happiness.’

Summary
At 28, Nick Nelson is living a life that should make him happy: he's got a good job, solid mates, and an on-again-off-again girlfriend he's known since secondary school. As soon as I started this fic back in 2024, I was hooked. The mirroring in the animal progress and the relationship is SO GOOD, the duck communication is funny and fantastic, and the portrayal of demisexuality makes my heart ache in the best way. Chapter 29 is 🔥. And the sex is hot and so meaningful it made both Nick and me into a new person. Everyone in the world must read this.

He spots him right away, it’s hard not to, the stall is tiny, barely enough space for one person. There’s a boy shoved between the toilet and the wall, his knees up to his face, covering it completely. All Nick can see is a tuft of curly black hair, a little messy and wet looking, covering any part of his face his knees aren’t.
His arms are wrapped around his knees, making himself an impossibly small thing. He can see blood stains on his sleeve, but thankfully there’s none around him on the floor.
“Hi,” Nick says, standing partially inside and out.
The tiny ball of a human squeaks out, “Hi,” but doesn’t look up.
“Do you want to come out of there? I’m sure it’s a little gross in there.”
The boy shakes his head, hair flops back and forth, curls moving just enough that Nick catches something black on his forehead and he frowns. “Can you tell me your name?”
“Charlie,” the boy answers. “Charlie Spring.”

He’s aware he’s promised Nick, but just this little bit of giving himself up, of spilling secrets with Nick was more than enough to set his anxiety aflame.
No, this is Charlie’s secret to burden, to bear, to covet and hold onto. This thing with Nick was a detour, small and quick and soon enough Nick will be just another face in the darkening crowd of people.
But then Nick appears, yells his name, and then, of all things in the known world, kisses Charlie on the cheek. The single press of lips burns hotter than any branding could and leaves behind an invisible mark. He feels the blush run up his cheeks, his breath caught somewhere in his throat. He’s left in a daze, the world around him stops spinning and all that’s left is Nick Nelson, smiling at him.
