Anything could've happened when Pomni put on that headset. It just so happened to be that she was turned into some cartoon character and put in a wasteland with monsters that wanted her dead.
Thankfully, she quickly makes an ally from a friendly, albeit "weak" (as the ai calls himself) named Caine. alongside Caine, Pomni is determined to figure out this world, even if it means learning that this world, and the people in it, are much worse than what's on the surface.

In a world full of quirks, soulmates have become quite commonplace too. You can have different bonds to different people marked by an array of colorful strings, invisible to all eyes except yours and wrapped around your fingers: yellow for platonic soulmates, green for found siblings, blue for parental figures and so on. Even so, the rarest of all soulmates are the romantic ones marked by a red string usually around your ring finger. The people with the red strings are said to be the luckiest and most loving people in the world.
