Fixing the finale.
The club music shifts abruptly as Ava sees Deborah cheers-ing the bartender DJ with the dregs of her dirty martini. She recognizes the song with the first chords. It’s the song she and Deborah sang at Karaoke early on in their months here. Faye Wong's incredible cover of The Cranberrie’s "Dreams". Just the first notes hit her in the gut and feel hopeful, nostalgic, and a little sad. It’s a fitting soundtrack for what she feels as she watches Deborah dance playfully over to her. She looks stunning, and like she has something to prove.

They are still a half step away from each other, sipping their tequila, as Ava peers over her glass at Deborah.
There’s something uncanny about seeing Deborah there in the flesh, looking just like she did on the screen as she quit the show and Ava heard her say for the first time that she loved her. As if Deborah is a vision. Which feels fitting, given how unbelievable she looks in that black dress, snugly hugging her chest and hips, beads catching the light, legs for days.
Deborah lets herself soak in Ava’s gaze for a bit then says, “Let me show you something.”

She determines she can’t need Ava as badly as she does. It makes her feel out of control. It’s dangerous to let anyone get this close. Why can’t she see that?

Paused in the parking lot looking out into the dark waves of the ocean, Deborah and Ava are side by side. Standing there in the afterglow of their conversation at the Oyster shack, and remembering the shock of the cold waves she braved to save Ava, Deborah shivers. She’s still wrapped in the towel and the new oversized hoodie that her waiter fan gave her. But she needs a warmth that runs deeper than it seems possible to get at the edge of the Pacific on this dark night. She still feels the precarity of having almost just lost Ava. The adrenaline of the near-miss still crackling in her body.
