    Summary

“Goalie eyes see all” is a concept every hockey player knows.
Sometimes, a goalie sees more that anyone else realizes.

    Goalies are weird.
Goalies often hold a privileged status on the ice, to be protected, to be respected for their skill.
Goalies are recognized as a special set of people in the game of ice hockey, and the nature of their position and job tends to allow them leeway in their idiosyncrasies, and teams will most often humor and adapt to their goalie’s tendencies and personality.
Especially if they’re good at their job.

Shane Hollander is very good at his job.

Shane Hollander has very good goalie eyes and a reputation for making good calls.
On the rare occasion that Hollander asserts himself on something with the team, they have learned to go along.
Hollander doesn’t do things without a good reason.

Even dragging people out of fights.

    Summary

In one truly chaotic and messy game against another middling team, goalie Shane Hollander makes the first goalie goal hat trick in NHL history.

As proud of this achievement as he is, the irony does not escape Shane that this accomplishment was only made because the Voyageurs could not put out a line that could land a puck in the net, and the team they were playing was only playing *barely* any better.

"You signed with the LA Kings?" she demanded. "What were you thinking? You know the plan. We'd go to the draft, get first pick, and go to Montreal."

"What are you even talking about?" Shane shot back. "If I got first pick, I'd go to Boston, not Montreal. And I don't even want to go to Montreal."

"Why?" Mom asked immediately. "They're one of the best teams in the league. One of the Original Six."

Something inside him snapped, and before he even realized it, he switched to Japanese.

"I don't know," he said, his voice tight. "Maybe because they're full of racists and homophobes. Do you even understand what I'm saying? Or have you become so white you forgot your own language?"

    Summary

“Mr. Grace?” Ryland shakes his head and remembers he’s behind his desk, dress shirt unbuttoned at the collar, tie undone completely and resting on his backpack.

“Depends,” he responds. “Are you the government or one of my students’ parents?”

“Both,” comes the answer. Grace’s eyes focus on his visitor. Beautiful, dark brown eyes. Tall, with broad shoulders. Long, black suit jacket with a white button-down and black and gray striped tie. Black suit pants. Short dark hair, buzzed close to his skull. Ear piece in one ear. Dark brown skin and nicely manicured fingers. Grace smiles to himself. He likes his view. His visitor smirks at him slightly, knowingly, but doesn’t say anything. He waits for Grace to collect himself.
