Summary
"Small issue with this all, isn't there?" Tarquin snaps, whirling around to face them, face Ashur. "Get especially unlucky, and you might end up with a bodyguard who's in league with the very person who's trying to kill you. And even if some random bloody hero who doesn't want to kill Ashur wins this shite tournament, that person still gets constant access to the Divine.”
He gestures towards the Viper and his ridiculous hat. "They'll figure it out. Give it a week."

Summary
Ashur kept pacing back and forth, occasionally glancing at the three bags on the table as if their seal would change if he only looked closely enough. Or perhaps the document next to them would transform into something innocuous.
He hadn’t wanted to believe it. Not when Tarpeia and Marisa had told him about the clandestine meetings between Tarquin and a templar they knew reported to the Venatori. Not when a search of Tarquin’s flat had produced the coin bags bearing a Venatori Vecellinus magister’s seal. Not when they had unearthed a document promising Tarquin a substantial promotion or when Dorian had brought back news from Ventus that Tarquin’s family had had some good luck recently – a promotion, a dispute settled in their favour, an advantageous marriage proposal, debts that had been settled.
All the evidence against him and Ashur hadn’t wanted to believe it. Not until he had seen Tarquin hand over documents himself. A message encoded in the lineage papers that were Tarquin’s bread and butter down at the archives. Tarpeia had even said it was genius as she had decoded it.- Language:

Summary
Asa found the book when he was retiring. Bleak House, Dickens, a lovely old edition, tucked into a corner next to Asa’s desk. How curious, it must have been here even before Derek sold the shop to him fifteen years ago. He picked it up, admiring the lovely cloth-bound cover and faded gilt lettering. Why wasn’t this out with the stock – had he taken it in to price and forgotten about it?
Asa couldn’t look up from the pages. All blank, so very curious, because the paper seemed as genuinely old as the book. Maybe much older, somehow, than it ought to be. Except, someone had written on the first page.
