"Tell me something," the necromancer said. He placed his empty mug on the wooden table with a soft thump. “I’ve always wondered something about your people’s creed. Perhaps you can enlighten me.”
The paladin kept her gaze toward the crowd that had gathered in the tavern that night, her own mug of ale sitting half full on the table in front of her. When she signed up for this job, she didn’t know the party leader had already hired a necromancer to the designated healer role. A budgetary strategy, the party leader had told her, as hiring a Knight of the Holy Twins such as herself did not come cheap. And as his treasure hunt would take them deep into Old Church territory, he was required to have at least one holy knight escort.
“You can’t ignore me forever, you know.” There was a smile in his voice. He was right.

“I gather that I’ve never taken you to my bed,” he says, certain it is true. Her spreading blush, adding the first hint of color to her grey demeanor, is fascinating — the Orokin in their shades of blue never blushed at all after centuries of apathy.
“There is more to a relationship than sex, Roathe.”
Now it is his turn to splutter, in disbelief. “Relationship? You mean to tell me that we were involved? Absurd. I might have believed time travel, or that you popped through reality like a bubble, but a relationship? Unthinkable.”
She stares at him knowingly. “When two people interact over time, it is called a relationship.”
He frowns, but feels the corners of his lips pulling up against his will. “Well, aren’t we irritating?”

Not only has he been blessed with a classically handsome face and body, but he can also see aether nearly as well as Hythlodaeus himself, manipulate it better than most of their professors, and remembers most things after hearing it once.
After years of watching Hades succeed on the laurels of his innate talents—graduating with the highest honors even—it is almost a relief to find something at which he’s not naturally gifted.
Although Hythlodaeus does wish it hadn’t been this.
Or, Hythlodaeus guides Hades through learning about sex and intimacy.
