Alana looked alarmed now, gave flickering to Will. “I’ve only done what I’ve thought best for Mischa!”
Hannibal’s gaze slipped into a glare. “Concerns for a girl you have only ever seen once in passing, and never actually spoke to? You don’t know enough about either Mischa or her situation to have concerns about it.”
Alana flushed and began looking rather embarrassed. She looked around the table, attempting to find an ally. Her mouth opened slightly but then closed. Her eyes darted around the room, searching for anything to say.
“We invited you to Mischa’s birthday thinking that you would be able to see the situation for yourself and be more comfortable with it. But you’ve spent the entire night determined to convince Will of his incapability. That you would even bring up this in front of not only our friends but Mischa herself is entirely inappropriate. I am afraid I must ask you to leave, Ms. Bloom.” Hannibal's voice was resolute.

“Warning: Pilot Ejection Advised.”
“Not while we’re still over the city, no- can’t risk this thing blowing up and landing on top of civilians. Maintain cruising altitude, calculate shortest route to minimal population area.”
“Altitude Locked - Calculating.”
For a moment, just a split second, Mecha Man visibly hesitates. Then, he switches hands, keeping the flight controls steady while reaching for a panel on the other side of the cockpit. A faint chime sounds, followed by a ringtone. Three repetitions. A voice speaks, too faintly to be heard over the wind, then a louder beep.
“Hey, buddy,” Mecha Man says, gaze locked onto the viewscreen in front of him, almost directly at the camera recording all of this. “Don’t think I’m going to be able to make it to dinner this weekend after all, sorry."

Mecha-man was a family heirloom with a catch, one that you didn’t get to turn down. You take the suit, you die for it, that was the deal. So when Midnight finally fell, Robert wasn’t meant to survive.
Prime didn’t. Astral didn’t.
But Robert did.
He was the runt of the legacy— he fucked it up! So why did he out of all the Mecha-men survive?
Now left to rot in a supers prison, Robert goes out on a limb and agrees to join the SDN’s failing ‘phoenix program’.
All because it promised him two things:
He gets his suit back.
And he gets outta this cell.Problem? They’re only interested in fixing him through a collar, a contract, and an already struggling program. As long as it means they get their big bad Mecha-man to put on show once he’s sorted.
But hey, what kinda man would he be if he turned the offer down?
So he does what he needs to get what’s promised:
He plays his part.
He does exactly what they expect.
He tries to convince everyone Mecha-man is gone.…Mostly
