Summary
A century after the Air Nomads were wiped out, Aira has spent years hiding an impossible secret-she's an airbender.

But as the war closes in and the past continues to haunt her, Aira must decide whether she'll keep hiding who she is-or finally embrace the person she was meant to become.

"It should kick in soon." Her voice was comforting and buttery. He wanted her to wrap him in it, fold him in the whisper of her words. He felt the medicine creeping to the edges of his skin, a warm trickle as she rubbed his shoulders. A burst of relief washed through him, the pain starting to feel distant.
Aang is recovering after recently getting hurt. Katara offers him some very effective medicine.

“Maybe someday you and Katara will hold a celebration of your own,” Hakoda added, the remark almost casual. It tilted the ground beneath Aang’s feet, and he stumbled awkwardly across the paving stones.
“Er, I mean, I’m sure—”
Hakoda laughed and slapped him on the back. “No rush, of course, you are both still very young. Plenty of time for weddings later.”
Aang felt rather faint as he nodded. “Right of course…later…weddings.”

Aang wants to propose to Katara and turns to his friends for advice. It's all predictably terrible.

Aang came back to his senses and woke up into a wakeful nightmare. At his feet, laying on the ground with his wrists and ankles still bound to the surface of the rock pillar with earth, was Fire Lord Ozai. His body was still, unmoving.
He just killed someone.
He won the war but effectively made sure balance could never be restored to the world. Because he’d just completed the genocide of the Air Nomads.

Aang feels all stupid and mushy for the tenth time this week. He asks her to stop for a second, hugs her warm and safe in his lap and Kya rolls her eyes, good-natured, fists curled against his chest.
“You’re really good at that,” he says, running his index finger over the starlit patterns she’s given him. Of all the ink on him, hers is by the far the best.
“I know.”
“Ah, you have your mother’s humility.”
Eight-year-old Kya really likes filling in Aang's tattoos with markers. He really likes being her dad. He likes the love of it all, of adoring Katara and making dinner and laughing and spinning.

Across the street, in the driveway of the house directly opposite, there is a car. It's orange. It's low to the ground, wide through the hood, something like the kind of car she sees in old movies and in magazines and not usually outside someone's actual house on a regular street. The hood is up.
And the person working on the engine is, well, shirtless. But, she wasn’t complaining, he was attractive to say the least.
Dark joggers. Completely bald, she takes it in as a surprise, but she thinks of it as something that looks, objectively, very good on him, probably all in the bone structure.

The rest of the evening was filled with dancing, dessert and laughter amongst friends, which were all things Aang loved. However, Aang was too distracted that night to truly appreciate and fully socialize. As Katara gracefully moved around the ballroom–laughing and talking amongst the guests–Aang’s eyes followed her. He orbited around her, never too far. His world began and ended with her, he thought. His friends would’ve laughed at that, but it didn’t make it any less true.
