Summary
Sienna and Eli Shannon thought their lives couldn’t be more ordinary: they consisted of high school, band practices with their foster brother Caleb, and working in their parents’ antique shop on Waverly Place in Greenwich Village. But the night before their eighteenth birthday, everything changes when they begin seeing mystical creatures seemingly ripped from the pages of the urban fantasy graphic novel Eli had been writing, and Sienna had been drawing artwork for. After their parents are mysteriously kidnapped, they meet the Nielsen siblings: Lydia, Gabriel, and Zoey; and their cousin, Wes Grey. They soon discover the truth about their family: they come from a bloodline associated with faeries, and their parents had been undercover agents known as The Archivists, a group of former CIA representatives who’d hunted and protected mystical artifacts, keeping them hidden in the Jefferson Market Library clock tower in a unique, hidden room disguised by glamour. Now, they must go on an epic race to rescue their parents and stop their mother’s brother, Ash Donahue, from experimenting on humans using the blood of supernatural creatures while uncovering a mysterious prophecy that might foretell their fate.

Emily pinches her brow. “Why?”
“Child sexual assault victims don’t speak up,” Spencer says, “Not nearly as often as an adult might. So many of these kids don’t have a concept of what’s appropriate, and if they did question it, it’s almost guaranteed to be from someone older, either an older child or an adult they’re told to respect. It wouldn’t get anywhere. If they were teenagers, maybe, but most of these kids are four through ten. We can’t expect them to talk about it. Most of them can’t even conceptualize it.”
It feels like a very quiet whisper in a very quiet room: it was me, it says, but Spencer won’t admit to it.
This is what it takes for a victim to speak up.
