Eddie's at his side, holding his hand. Something tells Steve he's been out of it for a while. Wouldn't be the first time.
"I've got ya, Stevie," Eddie says.
Voice distorted by the roar of a flame, of a fire. He feels no panic. Eddie is here. Steve smiles weakly, lips termbling at the effort before smoothing down. His ears are ringing and an alarm is sounding. He should be panicking he thinks.
"You always do," Steve agrees.
Ribs still hurt, his head too. Probably have another concussion. Robin's going to be pissed.

And sure enough, bright and early, but not so early that the coffee ain't done percolating. That boy has a nose for coffee. Amy is bouncing on her little toes, hair done up in a braid. She's holding onto Steve and Eddie's hands. Behind them are the other boys. The little pack all smell of excitement and joy. It's been too long. They load up into Steve's minivan, ain't none of them willing to risk Amy's safety squishing into his truck. Maybe when she's older he'll let her ride in the back. Let her experience the same joy Eddie did.

To extinguish a light so young will be painful but to let her continue down the path of darkness? Unstomachable.
"Sins must not be allowed to fester. Repent and be saved. Give up the demon and be forgiven."
Harrington lifts his head. One eye is swollen shit, both lips busted, nose bleeding. Jason did that. His hands are stained.

Amy crinkles her nose at the nickname. She shares both father's feeling about those bugs, despite liking literally every other bug up to and including scorpions.
"What we doing?"
Eddie shudders dramatically, getting her to laugh.
"We're going camping… glamping? Cabining? We're staying in a cabin for a week or so because if I let your momma lay on the ground in a tent like he wanted your grandparents would," he pauses trying to find a kid friendly way of saying 'they'd kill me, chop me up into itty bitty pieces and then feed me to an interdiminsional monster'.
"They'd be very angry at me."
"Cause of da babies?"
"Cause of the babies."
Amy hums softly before nodding her head, satisfied with the answer.

Why had he let Suzy, his sister-in-law talk him into this. He definitely would have hesitated if he had realised then that he would be sent to Three Rock.
So here he was back in his old home town after nine years. The first time his parents and his old friends would see him and he was wearing prisoner orange.
The worst part! He couldn't tell anyone the truth.

It’s dark save for the dim emergency lights along the back wall, and between that and the mirrors surrounding them, Johnny feels weirdly on display; like he’s center stage in one of his wet dreams and any second now “You Shook Me All Night Long” is going to start blaring while Daniel pounds him into the mat. But it’s quiet in the dojo, almost eerily so, except for the shared melody of their labored breathing.

Daniel sat in the dojo’s office, staring down at the thick stack of paperwork laid out before him. With a growing sense of dread, he gnawed on the cap of his pen and re-read the cover letter for the hundredth time. A representative from the Sekai Taikai had finally sent over the official registration papers, along with a polite but firm request to complete and return them before the stated deadline.
That had been almost two weeks ago now. The forms had been sitting untouched on his desk ever since.
And the deadline was in two days.
The problem was, every time he tried to complete them, he got stuck on the very first line.
