The real reason he wants to help, of course, is that Cyril doesn’t want to owe him anything. Doubly so now. Because before it would have been him owing something to the heir to the country that had killed his parents, but now it would be that as well as owing something to the son of the man who had left him to be forced into service, the blood of the dynasty that had neglected an orphan and left him to rot.
A follow-up to an earlier point: There are many things Cyril is not (a narc, a kid, an idiot), but there are also many things Cyril is. One of those things is ever so slightly vindictive.
A realisation: The king has never cared about people like Cyril, and now Cyril has been presented with the perfect opportunity to fuck with his son for free

Ren takes the spot Ann freed up, rubs the back of his neck. It’s a moment before he says, “You should go easier on her.”
Ryuji rolls his eyes, looks away. “Not you too. Listen, we’ve been fightin’ like this since grade school. She ain’t actually that mad.”
“Ryuji,” Ren says, and it’s the tone that makes him turn back, a note too serious. Ren’s eyebrows are lowered, looking straight at Ryuji as he continues, “We thought you died, for a minute.”
Ryuji shakes his head. “I didn’t, though.” He doesn’t like it, the look on Ren’s face.
Ren just leans a bit more forward. “But we thought you did.”
There’s something uncomfortable, piercing in it, something too much. Makes Ryuji’s skin tingle, same as when Ren says shit to palace rulers in the Metaverse.

…You'd never seen him quite like this, though. He'd even asked your advice!! It felt like an honor, a sign of trust that he'd confide in you of all people about something so personal to him, when he had always seemed so confident before. You'd floundered, of course, wildly out of your depth but doing your best to pull from the best examples from the most sweetly romantic of the books you've read. Celebrated with him when things seemed to be going well (you actually helped!!). Commiserated when he thought he'd misstepped.
When they finally made it official, he just…stopped going to you. For anything. You tried, you asked, you invited, you checked in, you wanted to meet them, know them and love them like you knew and loved Julien. If Vic was so special to him, you would love to make them part of your life, too!
And he responded, for a while, when you asked. You made plans together that never seemed to work out. They were both busy, always going somewhere or doing something together where you weren't wanted, weren't welcome, weren't asked. And that was—fine. It made sense that they'd want to spend all their time together, right? Maybe he'd want to reconnect once they settled into their relationship. And you didn't exactly want to be around for any of the kissing or…other things they might want to do alone together. It was silly to expect everything to be the same after a Change like that. You could adapt!! (If they'd let you.)
But—it was like sitting outside of a window instead of in the warmth of a room you'd once called home, listening for scattered snatches of conversation no longer meant for your ears, only let slip to you incidentally.
You wanted to be someone your friends could turn to for help, advice, comfort, to share both their joy and pain. If they didn't care to share these pieces of themselves with you, the mundane as much as the momentous, did you mean anything to them at all? Were you a part of their lives, like you wanted them to be part of yours?
Isn't it pathetic to hang around outside his window still? Take the hint, Mirabelle. Let him go.

“Exactly.” She noticed your hand was down to only one card, and frowned for a second. “One of the takeaways from the Guide Morgane is that, whenever you feel alone, remember someone out there, some time, some place, maybe even close by, has felt the same way. But that gets me thinking — and this is coming from an Orthodox Changeist perspective, so I believe in inheritance — what if every struggle is rooted in a single primordial being, and the living only suffer because pieces of that being are inside us? Like, it is all that one jerk’s fault.”
You chuckled. “I’m sure there are other religions that have that theory.”
“Then I just get sad,” she said, “that others have felt pain too.” She sighed. “It’s overwhelming, sometimes, to be connected to the world.”

“I am your worst student,” Danny answered. And he lowered one arm exclusively to point. “And THAT is the dead body of my ghost clone.”

Alone on the farthest outskirts of Amity Park, Danny Fenton and Edward Lancer bury the dead body of Danny's clone. It is long and tedious work, and Danny can't dodge Lancer's questions forever. Surely it's only fair of Lancer to demand to know what he has been pulled into. Surely Danny could use someone on his side, now that his evenings are spent burying his clones.
