He swallows. “Ah—I wasn’t—”
“And I don’t blame you for it.”
He stills.
“Mark. I have never blamed you for it.”
He’s silent for a moment before speaking, voice so low that you have to strain to hear it. “You should.”

The Captain wakes up in their cryo-pod for the last time. And everything is fine. Aside from the memories of all the times it wasn't. They face the day, the work, and wait for the reset, despite the fact that they can recall the crystal, the wormhole, the finality, at least in bits and pieces. It has to be fixed, they know it is, but when the day comes to a close and it's just Mark and them at the fire, the Captain can't help but wait in fear for the inevitable reset that won't ever come.

Carlos sputters as Kevin grabs him by the collar and yanks him up. He’s afraid for a moment, hyper aware of how dangerous Kevin could choose to be, but then he’s being shoved forward and away until he’s facing the camp of the Masked Army.
“You see them? They belong here. This is their home.” Kevin pokes Carlos in the forehead. “It’s not your home. And it’s certainly not mine. Neither of us belongs in this place. But even if that weren’t true, even if somehow I could belong on this side of the door, that doesn’t mean Night Vale wasn’t really your home or that it didn’t love you.”
The expression on Kevin’s face twists into something mostly impatient, partially sympathetic. “I’m no scientist, but that seems like some pretty faulty logic to me.”
