Sebastian’s waiting for him after, eyes glued to his feet. He looks small like this, hunched into himself and head bowed. It only adds to their height difference when Rod steps closer.
He doesn’t say a word, only presses his palm to the small of Sebastian’s back and gently coaxes him forward. He leads him to his car, opens the door for him, buckles his seatbelt for him. It’s his loss just as it is Sebastian’s, but it’s his responsibility to carry the boy through it.
