Two selfless idiots who owed each other’s life. One way or another, it didn’t matter. Derek could feel it, they were a pair of doomed, sacrificial lambs. One had to go, the other had to live. One knew all about the other ; through his infinite knowledge, the other was one of the rare clear concepts he could grasp.
The other did not know the first thing about him.
He still claimed to owe him his life.

Every third week of spring there was a full moon that rose over the starry sky of the Creme Republic, and every year the illustrious Paladin Academy had their annual Banquet of Divine Light.
It was a grand event for the alumni of the paladin class; a beautiful evening of fine dining and nostalgic conversation. Madeleine Cookie himself had gone every year since his graduation, minus the time he spent searching for the Soul Jam. It had been one of the few things he had so dreamed of as a child, especially with how his mother spoke of it like a fairytale.
Only one thing would make the night even better.

“There is a cure.”
Following the council meeting, Pure Vanilla and Hollyberry found Madeleine in his chambers, ready to share the "rumored" disease. As absurd as it seemed, carried a cure that tugged at his heartstrings: the love he yearned for should be returned.
Pure Vanilla reassured, “We will assist you back to the Creme Republic, have no fear, and we’ll set you up with that special person of yours.”
There was no need to travel. Madeleine stammered, “He’s here…”
A glimmer of hope flickered when Madeleine finally revealed his "special person" was within the castle walls. The two ancient heroes were ready to help and break the unrequited love. But when Madeleine uttered the revered coffee magician’s name, the once hopeful silence morphed into a suffocating quiet, heavy with a dawning realization…
Espresso, the most reluctant participant in the game of hearts, had to be the one to fall for the dying knight commander.
