Summary
“H-he’s going to want to help me through it,” Hakuri says, nearly choking on the last words. His stomach lurches with another cramp. A whine escapes his throat, and he closes his eyes in pain despite feeling Chihiro’s stare boring into him.
The pressure on Hakuri’s hand increases. He opens his eyes to see Chihiro’s face, schooled into calm as he says, “Of course Shiba-san’s going to help you through it.”
The sense of betrayal is overwhelming. It burns worse than the fever.
Hakuri goes into heat and Chihiro offers help. They have very different definitions of the word.

“My life hadn’t started until I met your father,” Yōji whispered against Chihiro’s neck. He brushed his cheek against the roughness of the boy’s hair, all mussed against the pillow and spiked into familiar cowlicks. “And I thought it ended with him.”
Chihiro lay still in Yōji’s embrace, his shallow breaths the only indication he was alive. Like this, pressed together chest to back, it was easy to see him as a living, breathing thing. Not a blade of frigid tamahagane, but forged all the same. A living, breathing Rokuhira.

The unpacked belongings had been shoved to one side, revealing strange chalk markings on the floor, what looked to Emma’s amateur eye like magic sigils. In the center of the room was a metal folding chair. Rachel knelt next to it, carefully not touching the chalk, looking up at the figure sitting in it, dormant.
Emma blinked. It was Jean. And also it wasn’t.
It was Jean’s body. To Emma’s normal eyes, she looked like she was sleeping, her chest rising and falling peacefully, her lips slightly parted. But to Emma’s mental eye there was a coiling thing where her mind should be. It felt slick and sharp at once, almost oily. Emma didn't get too close.
“You see the problem,” said Scott from where he stood by the door.

absurdly, ridiculously, fantastically pitch-perfect poly lesbian feels. the telepathic imagery here drives me neurodivergent. will likely come back to leave a more coherent and meaningful review, but as it is, i just love this fic. feels like it could be a miniseries unto itself. hellions 2020 who?
