A few months have passed since the battle of the Southern Isles. Viggo and Hiccup have returned to their respective islands sending letters and messages with the occasional visit. In that time, Hiccup has finished his preparations for winter including helping injured dragons who arrive on his island. However, things change when several injured dragons start appearing on his island. His interest in the Nest is forcefully pulled forward. He has to make plans to protect dragons of all kinds.
Viggo wasn't certain of what happened when the letters suddenly stopped coming a month after leaving the Southern Isles for the last visit og the season. He'd sent a message to the island two days ago and nothing was returned to the pole. There were no explosions. Nothing to suggest that the younger was even alive. The Hunter was beginning to worry. Especially, when the hunter ships that were near the area hadn't seen any hint of the Ghost or his dragon. Viggo goes out to find out what happened.

Because looking into the Monstrous Nightmare's eyes, Hiccup couldn't see the ugly beast that the other vikings claimed they saw. No, what he saw was an incredibly intelligent creature—hurt, angry and afraid, bearing his teeth only in an attempt to defend himself.
And so, despite his father's angry shouts and the shocked looks of the vikings watching from the arena, Hiccup brought his hand towards the dragon's snout and turned his head away, hoping that he could prove that there were more to dragons than being brutal killing machines. He could show them that maybe, maybe, humans had been wrong all along. Maybe they weren't just mindless beasts.
He felt a warm pressure on his hand. Smiling gently, Hiccup couldn't help but sigh from relief. Little did he know, he had just changed his entire fate.
Poor Hiccup. The names they will call him.

And now, he stood in their kitchen like a stranger, having to pretend be okay with the fact that Ilya went out and hooked up with Svetlana on a night meant to celebrate hockey's greatest. A party he wasn't even invited to as a captain himself.
He spent the entire day coming up with meticulous loopholes and justifications for something that was actually quite simple—nobody remembered. Shane was wholeheartedly forgotten and he was too proud, or maybe dense, to figure it out himself.
Or, the one where Ilya forgets Shane’s birthday. Coping ensues.

He shook his head. The runaway idea was stupid—there’s no way they’d be able to pull it off and even if they did, there were just so many things that could go wrong. He didn’t know if he could pull off a convincing scheme like this, he knew he’d leave some kind of sign (but what if he was careful)? Plus he had no idea if Ilya would actually be ok with dropping everyone and running—also what about Svetlana, would she be ok with doing all of that? He already felt like he asked Ilya to give up too much despite his reassurances and this would just be another thing he’d be asking Ilya to leave.
There was just no way that would work—right?
OR
Shane and Ilya don't come out to Yuna and David. Instead, they leave everything behind.

"Because Skywalker has never been to the new temple before, we deemed it safe enough for one last trip,"
"I see." Obi-Wan rasped out, his throat tightening and his vision blurring at the thought of his future banishment from the Temple, and ostensibly the Jedi Order. After all, who would trust him with the future of their Order, with another Padawan, when he failed so miserably with Anakin?
"We're giving you three days to rest and refuel, but we have to ask that you take off again."
