Summary
Grace wakes up on a strange ship to gunfire, Adrian protecting him, and no clue was "C.O.I." means.
Simon is in the middle of losing his mind when space folds and a musical rock is suddenly taking up some of the SM-13's limited space.
Excerpt:
Grace takes a deep breath and tells the Hail Mary, "Scan for any signs of Eridian life, traces of xenonite, or radio signals. Do not report traces of Adrian or this radio signal.""Scanning for Eridian life. Inconclusive." Grace clenches his jaw, staring at the microphone like he'll hear what he wants if he doesn't blink. "Scanning for traces of xenonite. Inconclusive." Next to him, Adrian shifts, a low-tone humming emanating from them in an attempt to soothe Grace and themself. "Scanning for radio signals. One active signal found."
Relief floods through Grace, his breath rushing from him and his legs almost buckling. "Can you determine the source? Where is it?" he asks.
"The signal originates from below the surface of this moon's ocean."
"The signal is coming from within the ocean?"
"Yes, Dr. Grace."
"But that's impossible. We lost the SM-13's signal days ago," Ava says.

Summary
Just after Grace and Rocky are reunited at Tau Ceti, something odd pops up on the proximity alert. Seized by curiosity and fueled by a need for purpose, Grace reaches out for this artifact, only measuring about a foot across. Despite it's small size, they couldn't have guessed the scale of the discovery.
Neither could Simon, trying to sort out reality and hallucination, as he escapes the horrors lurking in AT-5. He comes face to face with a larger than life figure, coming to terms with his past and his future.

“What if Rocky figures out a way to extend Grace’s life?”
The time dilation already assured him that he’d die much later than the friends and acquaintances he had made during the building of the Hail Mary project—something that still unnerves him, even now—but he would have at least died in a what would be considered a reasonably short timeframe in comparison to an Eridian one.
Maybe… maybe he wanted it, though. Maybe these short twelve years on Erid, plus whatever he had left, just wasn’t enough for him.

When Grace gets seemingly teleported by means unknown into the SM-13 right as it was nearing The Light, both Simon and Grace have no idea what is happening. Grace knows he was supposed to be in his house on Erid, Simon knows this new guy cannot possibly be a hallucination, and Ava, upon hearing Grace ramble about theories for how he got there, knows that new guy is Smart. Could-Secure-Our-Survival Smart.
She orders Simon to bring Grace back to the surface, and thus begins Grace's ordeal in a starless universe. -

Just as Grace was about to float back to the entrance, finally freeing himself from the prison of the ship, he suddenly felt something grab his wrist, pulling him back with a force so strong his legs nearly flew out from underneath him. Grace’s neck cracked loudly as he whipped around so fast he was left dizzy.
The man’s hand was gripping his suit. The dead man. The man who was dead. The dead who was dead and there was no possible way he could not be dead had just moved.
That bright light panel must have killed him, Grace reasoned as he stared down at the hand holding his wrist. Yes, the light killed him, and this was a dream. Funny, he had always thought you were supposed to see all your best memories before you died. If that was true, then he was very concerned that this was the best memory his brain could conjure, especially since this had never happened. At least, as far as he was aware. -

Ryland Grace saved the earth about 30 years ago; For him, it's only felt like 8. Time works differently in space, however the loneliness stays the same. Of course he loves the Eridians, though the strangling desire for human connection has only worsened as he’s grown older— and not aged. Erid's keeping its savior alive, and Ryland hates it.
It manifests into dreams, sick and cruel dreams of a man who could give Ryland everything he ever wanted. As long as the teacher didn’t mind the torment it came with.
So after eight years, he, Rocky, and Adrian embark on a trip light years away from Erid in the hopes of locating the Pavo Constellation, home to a star system full of iron, worship, and desperation. Perhaps they can revive Pavo’s dwindled stars? Locate the man who lingers just behind Grace’s eyes?
Something lurks beyond the cosmos, something that seems to be causing all of Ryland’s frenzied dreams. A man and a monster all the same, perhaps the exact one he promised to save.

Summary
We’d made contact with those on the other side through technology first. When we “loosened the pipes” that connected us all, as Rocky put it, it allowed messages to flow through. Only recently, we had figured out how to loosen them enough to let people through without much issue.
The people on the other side had experienced a similar problem to us in their stars dying, though theirs happened much faster. It was all at once. They called it “The Quiet Rapture”. Spooky, but it fit them. All of their stars were dead, despite their light still traveling for years. They’d grown desperate in their efforts to keep what little people were left alive and had begun exploring moons.
OR
Grace and Rocky make contact with the world of Iron Lung and bring Simon and Ava over for strictly scientific reasons.

Simon was seconds away from dying a horrific death. Blood filling the submarine, being in the jaws of an eldritch monster, his arm torn off, and countless other things. It seemed like a certain end, until he's suddenly surrounded by a blue light and spat out onto a ship he doesn't recognize, no longer drowning in blood or torn to shreds by rows of teeth.
Soon after, the Captain and the Head Engineer of the ship find him and, after quickly understanding he's from another universe (and from the looks of it, a bad one), actually decide to help him, healing his fatal wounds, and welcoming him to their colony, letting him stay for however long he likes.
For Simon, it feels like it's too good to be true. A universe where the Quiet Rapture never happened, COI and Eden non-existent, and finally given a proper second chance to redeem himself from years of being "The Butcher". That is until he realizes that the cause of the Rapture haunts him still, both in mental and physical ways, and that may not only ruin his second chance at life...but this new universe as well...
