"We can't keep doing this, Hollander," he told him. "Is not safe."
"Why are you saying this now?" Shane interrogated. "We're playing a game tomorrow."
"I—," Ilya started but he had no idea what to say. He hadn't meant to end it like this. "I'm sorry."
"Sorry?" Shane repeated. "You can't even look at me."
Ilya closed his eyes, then forced himself to meet Shane's eye. He wish he hadn't. Because Shane was looking at him like he'd been slapped. Like Ilya had just played a cruel joke on him and was laughing at him like he was stupid.
"We can't, I can't..." Ilya said pathetically.
"You can't," Shane repeated, like reality was setting in.
"Not like that," Ilya tried to correct. "I just—"
"No, I got it, Rozanov," Shane assured sarcastically.
Ilya didn't think he did but he was at a loss of how to explain things.
"You know I was gonna ask you something," Shane said.
-What if Ilya broke up with Shane before he got hurt at the Boston game? Ilya's world is completely shattered and he doesn't know if Shane is going to be okay and he just fucking left him.

He stared at the message for a moment further, the words blurred from his unshed tears, before violently shaking his head to clear it and pressing his thumb on the delete button.
Except that's not what he did.
Shane watched in horror as the message went from just a draft to something he actually sent. He sent it.
He sent it.
OR
Instead of deleting the message in episode 2, Shane accidentaly sends it, prompting an entirely different ending to the entire scene.

“Hollander.” Shane’s head snaps back to his left. Ilya is much closer, pace slightly hurried. “Come here.” His voice sort of mimics the way one would talk to an animal paralyzed in fight-or-flight. Shane is not sure what to make of that.
He slowly turns his head in the opposite direction, where his vision tunnels on the door for the stairwell. It almost glows like a special item in a video game, like a hint. Without giving himself time to doubt, he bolts.
“Wha- Hollander, what the fuck!” Ilya shouts in audible disbelief, and Shane distinctly hears matching thuds of frantic footsteps behind him; Ilya is chasing after him. Shane runs faster, positively sprinting at this point. He’s the fastest skater in the NHL right now. He can do this. He flings the door open and bounds down the steps two at a time, hitting the walls with each turn of a corner. If he eats shit on this filthy floor and embarrasses himself in front of Ilya, he thinks, he’ll never let himself see the light of day ever again.
