Summary
In a world where the Great Bastards were of an age to Daeron II Targaryen, his son Maekar, at age two, was given to Daemon Blackfyre as a ward in an effort to maintain stability within the realm.
Fifteen years later, Maekar is sent to live at Dragonstone alongside his widowed older brother, after having fought for the rebels during the Rebellion.
Baelor is grappling with a grief-stricken son and a realm in disarray. Maekar is traumatized from a childhood spent in a household where he was unwanted and unloved. It takes a while before it stops being a disaster.

Summary
King Baelor II remains susceptible to headaches years after recovering from his injuries at Ashford. Maekar is thankfully willing to help soothe them (with sex, obviously).

Summary
"Maekar thought, sometimes, that he would have been happier to die fighting alongside his brother during the Rebellion than returning home to live a life without him. At least then, they would have been burned together."
***
Post-Ashford. Baelor is recuperating at Summerhall. Feelings are surfacing that Maekar has long been trying to bury.

Summary
"Overruling the will of the Gods rarely comes without consequences,” his father warned him.
But Maekar does not belong to the Gods, Baelor thought savagely. Maekar belongs to me.
***
Maekar, not Baelor, is greviously wounded at Ashford. To prevent him from dying, Baelor imposes a bond onto his brother. For a while, Maekar hates him for it.

Summary
“He was ruined now. Ruined for anyone but Baelor. He supposed that had always been the case. His first word had been Baelor’s name. Womb to ash, Maekar knew who he belonged to.”
***
Baelor survives the blow to his head at Ashford but believes himself to be mated to Maekar as a result. Their father orders Maekar to go along with the charade in order to ensure Baelor heals from his wounds. Maekar does, even though he knows it will be his undoing.

Summary
The idea of Daeron, waking from his nightmares, and unsuccessfully searching for him and Maekar made him feel ill. Baelor knew that it had been unavoidable, but for a moment he thought: Fuck the rebellion. Fuck the crown. We should have stayed with our sons.
***
Daeron had forseen Baelor's death for the first time as a mere babe. He never stopped.
***
(A fix-it AU exploring how Maekar and Baelor dealt with Daeron’s dreams.)

Summary
He indulged Maekar, he knew that. He always had, in a way he did not with Aerys and Rhaegel. Baelor couldn’t help it. He never seemed to have developed the requisite ability to deny his baby brother his wishes, and his wishes, much of the time, were simply to be with Baelor.
***
Or, five times throughout their lives together when Baelor tended to Maekar's wounds, plus the one time Maekar tried (and failed) to return the favour.

Summary
“He had been in love with Baelor since he knew what love was. By the time Maekar had thought to stop it, it was already too late. It lived within his very bones, the blood in his veins, such a fundamental part of his soul that there was no separating himself from it. Maekar doubted that it would leave him even in death.”
***
Baelor makes the decision to wed Maekar to him after his sons and wife die during the Great Spring Sickness and Baelor assumes the throne. It would be easier if they had spoken since the tournament at Ashford. It would be easier if Maekar had not been in love with him since they were boys.

Updated on 2026/04/30 to include a gorgeous fanart that was created for this fic (Chapter 2).

Summary
This is Valarr's POV of Maekar's visit to his bedside as he suffers from the Great Spring Sickness, as seen in the first fic in this series. It can technically be read as a standalone, but it will make more sense if you read the first fic.

Summary
Maekar is aware that a better man would have stopped this. A better man would also not have slain his brother.
(Or, a series of vignettes after Baelor dies and Maekar and Valarr are forced to continue on without him.)
