Speak for me, and he does, but his voice these days is not dark with terrible purpose; a knowing and inhuman shade does not color his words. He’s inert.

The right thing to do when an android attaches itself to you is to swiftly cut contact and move on with your life. Joe had failed to go with the plan about 5 years too late, so the new plan was to make do with the symbiosis he'd reached with the paranoid and self-destructive android he now has to tolerate and repair a thousand times every day.
Punk has no issue with the way Joe explains how they met to everyone (except for the factually wrong amount of times he breaks his body per day, which is not that many), and while he's thinking this, he fails to see the bus barrelling down the street towards him.
