    Summary

"I should have been there with you," Stede said, voice rough. "If I hadn't left—"

"Stede," Ed said, frustrated. He wiggled backwards out of Stede's arms and held his face in his hands, so that Stede couldn't look away. "It wasn't you leaving that did it. Stop thinking it was your fault."

"Okay," Stede said, clearly agreeing because he felt like he had to, and not because he actually agreed.

"Actually," Ed said, shaking Stede's head slightly for emphasis. "I was getting over you. I did some really excellent wallowing. I ate all of your marmalade, and I drank almost all of your brandy."

    That got him a laugh.

"That's so much marmalade," Stede said.

After everything settles down, Ed and Stede finally start to talk about it.

"He'll be okay, Ed," Mary says, from beside him. She reaches out, laying a reassuring hand on Ed's forearm. "They'll all be okay."

Her voice sounds calm, but when Ed shoots her a sidelong glance, he can see that the anxiety in her eyes mirrors his own.

"I know," Ed says, patting her hand. "I know. It's just… fuck. This is gonna be the longest six minutes of my life, y'know?"

Ed Teach watches from the Family Room at Mission Control while his husband, Commander Stede Bonnet, and his fellow crewmates re-enter earth's atmosphere after their flight around the moon.

    Summary

...That’s when he sees Stede coming out from the inn and heading towards the water.

He’d said he wanted to help, but had been vague about what that entailed exactly. Ed had envisioned them floating side by side, perhaps, Stede mirroring his exercises in a cheerful show of moral support...

As he approaches now, Ed squints, trying to figure out what he’s wearing - possibly a new, bright-coloured towel is wrapped about his waist? But as he gets closer, it becomes clear it isn’t that at all, and something is… very wrong.

    Summary

Ed’s seen plenty of folks run a marathon.

He’s also seen plenty of folks walk a marathon.

But he’s never seen anyone race walk a marathon. Until now.

Ed notices the cadence before anything else. It’s all hips. Hips swiveling and dipping like those of a supermodel, if that model were crossing a football field at the same pace the others made it down the catwalk. Arms pumping double time but no bounce in the shoulders—eerily smooth from the chest up. And while on the topic of chest…this might be the broadest chest Ed’s ever seen on an endurance athlete. A luminous pink shirt hugs his biceps, the swell of his tits, the small peaks of his—Jesus. With the rain and the chill, someone’s gonna get an eye poked out.

    Ed hopes it’s him.

He doesn’t need both of his eyes.

    or:

This blond guy race walking a marathon is the sexiest person Ed Teach has ever seen. And Ed's...fascinated.

Things are actually pretty quiet today, which would normally be a blessing, but in this particular instance it’s giving him far more opportunities to casually drift past the blond’s room and check on the situation. Just out of professional curiosity, of course.

However, that means that he’s actually in earshot to hear the cop say, with all the smug gloating of a villain in an action movie, “...thought you were so clever, didn’t you, Bonnet? Thought you were one step ahead of us. And now here you are, with nowhere to go. Real pain in the ass, isn’t it?”
