Rumi has been running most of her life.
What was now something she enjoyed doing while studying for her degree, it had been a must for her since she presented as an alpha. Although she was too young to participate in the mandatory yearly Run, her appa had sat down and explained what was required of her and every unmated person when she was old enough: participate in the Run to find a mate.
Rumi had listened to every word Celine had said, stubbornly claiming at the end she didn't want to mate with anyone. Her appa had a glint in her eye, the kind that told Rumi her parent knew something she didn't, but had given her the answer to her freedom: running.
Younger Rumi had a new motivation from then on: be able to run faster and longer than everyone else in order to outlast others during the Run and remain mateless.

Rumi's jaw tightened, her eyes focusing on some point in the space between Mira and Zoey, "It's not something that can be explained. It just is. A fact of nature, like how turtles have shells and tigers have stripes. I just need you to trust me when I tell you I'm not worthy of it."
Or, demons impersonate Rumi and Mira kissing in public. Mira spirals, Rumi breaks down and Zoey's insecurities implode.

Apparently choosing to not comment on it for the time being the taller alpha leaned down clearly intending to greet Rumi first and foremost and Rumi sat up a bit straighter letting her phone drop into her lap as she tipped her head to offer her neck-
The rumbling snarl had all three of them freezing in place.
”Uh?” Zoey said very slowly, pulling her hands away from the tiger’s head. He had moved it just out of her reach to press his muzzle closer to Rumi and was staring up at Mira with decidedly less stupidity than he normally did. Worse than all of that his teeth were far bigger than they usually were and they were also decidedly fully bared. “Derpy?”

Mira turned back to Zoey, seeing her reaching down for something just under the table. She straighten back up, a toddler in her arms.
“What the—” Mira blinked, words vanishing as Zoey set the little boy on her lap and cooed at him. Rumi had already turned away, signaling to Bobby who was approaching them, and that was deeply unfair. Why was Mira the only one having her brain scrambled by the cuteness in front of her? Why wasn’t Rumi subjected to her own heart beating wildly in her chest?
“Aren’t you so cute?” Zoey cooed. “Look, Mira, he’s wearing our merch! Our littlest fan!”
The toddler blinked at Mira with wide eyes and stuck a thumb in his mouth. He wore the same HUNTR/X shirt Bobby loved best.
“Zoey, why do you have a baby?”
Mira never wanted children. Her parents turned her off the idea, but Rumi and Zoey begin to change her mind--not on purpose but just by being themselves. Thankfully, all three of them are alphas so Mira has plenty of time to unpack her own feelings from her parents' expectations. Unfortunately, Mira didn't consider that secondary genders are not as static as most people believe.

“Here, let me!” said Enid, still hovering and clearly noticing Wednesday’s struggle. (Wednesday could not leave her as a witness. If she could not source a memory draught quickly enough, she would have to resort to complete elimination.) Then, swiping the tin of ointment from Wednesday’s stiff fingers, Enid said, “I promise I’ll be gentle. But you really look like you weren’t managing on your own.”
Wednesday went to protest. But Enid was remarkably quick. A cool, calming sensation bloomed from the spot on her shoulder where Enid had already managed to spread a generous amount of the cream. And Wednesday’s resistance died on her lips.
Fine. If she wasn’t meant to die here, she would suffer through the indignity until she had control of her limbs back. Then, all of this could be corrected. Whether or not Enid had needed to help her to apply the ointment was irrelevant, as her corpse wouldn’t be able to spill this secret either way.
