He swings his head around, looking for Hiccup, because things like this have happened before, and Hiccup can always fix it, before he remembers that Hiccup is not here.

The manor loomed large, surrounded by acres of manicured grass and trees bursting with autumnal colors that made Dick feel like he was gazing at a forest on fire. Odysseus has been home for awhile now. Watching Athena show his son the warmth and approval she had always denied him.. hurt. He's happy to see his son cared for. Truly. But that ache is still sharp.
Now he watches her, knelt on the ground, laughing and playing with his son as though it was the most natural thing in the world. Perhaps it wasn't vulnerability or regression she disapproved of, perhaps it was just him.
