Summary
Dipper heads back to Gravity Falls expecting a reunion. Maybe it's time he accepted that his life is never going to be so simple. The last time he was there, everything fell apart. At least that hasn't changed.
So to recap: Dipper gets pulled back to Gravity Falls by a phone call, and as always, things go from bad to worse. Dipper just meant to make sure Mabel was alright, and now he's mixed up with the demon that is supposed to be dead, another that's out for blood, and the town he's tried to so hard to forget.

December, 1933. It had been some ten years since Stanley last laid eyes on his brother, before a cryptic message sent him on the first train to Oregon. Now he finds himself in the curious town of Gravity Falls, where no one seems capable of giving him a straight answer to any question he asks, least of all the one that looms largest on his mind: Can his brother be saved? His brother is at the very heart of a thick web, and Stanley intends to untangle it once and for all.
An AU taking inspiration from Lovecraft's "The Thing On The Doorstep", additionally a slight rewriting of Stan and Ford's reunion.

Summary
Mabel returns to Gravity Falls for the first time in years and ends up staying longer than intended. Her first summer there, everything went wrong. At least that hasn't changed.
In other words: AU where Ford kept the Shack and Stan went on his way. A twenty-year-old Mabel Pines just meant to drive through Gravity Falls, but now she's staying in town to reopen the Mystery Shack, and ends up reconvening with all the people she thought she'd left behind- like the family she thought forgot her, and the demon she thought was dead.

At least that hasn't changed.
A twenty-year-old Mabel Pines just meant to drive through Gravity Falls, but after starting an unexpected partnership with Ford, she stays in town to reopen the Mystery Shack. It is no coincidence that this is also when Dipper's return to town takes place and, shortly thereafter, the return of that demon Mabel had really hoped was dead. And it is no coincidence that these returnings call the attention of another far more personal foe.
