Summary
Dean is an elf in Santa's workshop, and he's not very good at it. Is it really his fault though if the gift assignments made by the workshop's new AI are so consistently awful? No wonder he's not meeting his quotas.
Unfortunately, the higher-ups don't see it his way. Dean gets demoted to the very bottom of the rung, the mailroom, where he soon discovers that things at Santa's workshop are even worse than he thought. With the help of his friend Charlie, his slightly uptight brother Sam and five-time Elf of the Year Castiel Novak, Dean brings to light a conspiracy that threatens the integrity of Christmas itself.

Summary
Dean’s entire life has been a string of bad luck: some because he’s suffered the consequences of drug kingpin John Winchester’s terrible decision-making, some because he seems to have inherited the trait. After being attacked in an alley, Dean is saved by a mysterious man in a trench coat. Castiel turns out to be a cop determined to arrest two key players in Chicago's illegal drug game; a corrupt politician, and a murderous drug dealer with a dark connection to Dean. He offers Dean an opportunity to turn his life around, in exchange for helping Cas gain access to these people. Their cover story? Castiel, or rather, 'Jimmy', is Dean’s new boyfriend.

Their friends wait impatiently to see who will chicken out first, but they’ve all given up on that happening when they show up to their 20-year high school reunion having been married for 14 years and both of them still thinking they are straight and in denial that they are in love with each other.
This is based on a prompt from a meme on the Destiel forever Facebook group:
In high school I was dared to play “gay chicken,” which is where two straight guys pretend to be gay, and the first one to chicken out loses. The other guy and I are really stubborn, and neither one of us wanted to lose. We’ve been married 14 years and run a bed and breakfast in Vermont with our adopted daughter. If that dude doesn’t chicken out soon, I’m going to start to suspect he’s actually gay.

Since he was twelve years old, Castiel has been cursed: he drains and eventually kills any living thing he touches. To keep the outside world safe, he’s voluntarily isolated himself in the relative safety of northern Minnesota. Working for Channel 8 Uranus was a pain in the ass. The only thing that kept Castiel from quitting was his brother. Gabe was counting on him to help keep the local station on the air.
Castiel was willing to put up with any indignity to get on-air experience. His cat distracted him from the humiliation of reporting “News from Uranus”; his obsession with Mr. July from the Firefighter Charity Calendar took care of the rest.
The biggest mistake Dean ever made was being in that damn calendar. Harassed and objectified, he quit his big city job and took the first offer that came his way. Uranus might have the worst name, but the people were nice and the local news had one smokin’ hot reporter.
Life was dull, but after being Mr. July, boring was good. Dean planned to keep it that way.
Until a 911 call on New Year’s Day shoved him back into the spotlight.
As station manager and Castiel’s brother, Gabe knew a social media sensation when he saw it. Determined to save the station and get his brother some action, he finds a way to put Uranus on the map—and score some free fudge. If he had his way, the entire country was going to watch Cas and Dean fall in love, one live segment at a time.
