“Why did you have to go and get traded?! You realise we’re going to have to see each other every day from now on, and play together, and-”
“Yes,” Ilya interrupted. He didn’t want to know how long Hollander’s list was. “I know.”
Hollander took a deep breath. “Okay, listen,” he said. “Just so we’re clear - we don’t know each other outside of playing against each other, right?”
“Right.”
“And we can’t- can’t hook up anymore.”

Ilya wasn’t surprised when he was called into a meeting with the GM the next day. The way he’d been holding out on contract extension talks, and the way the team’s season had been trending, he was honestly surprised it had taken that long.
Before he can make the move to Ottawa in free agency, Ilya is traded to the Detroit Overdrive for the remainder of the season. It's only a temporary move to bolster their playoff prospects, but it still puts a hell of a wrench in some carefully laid plans.
