They'd been working all day and his hair was mussed, his perfect jaw was dark with five o'clock shadow, his eyes were dark with something they never let themselves name. "I shouldn't ask you. You're a married man."
"Ask me anyway," Fiddleford breathed, and pulled Ford into a hungry kiss.

Polly was falling.
Falling, falling, endlessly through the infinite black, and then suddenly the air around him changed from the hot and sulfuric miasma of the Industry to cold and sharp, and then the ground was rushing up to meet him. He plummeted to the ground with the velocity of a crashing satellite, bone cracking and earth shattering under the impact, and he was gone.
He wasn’t dead, somehow, not entirely. Not yet.
(Or, Polly's return to the Industry after his defeat at the hands of the Instrumentalist goes poorly, and he ends up back on Earth, broken and battered but alive.)

The door opened, and she briefly glanced upwards just in time to see SecUnit slip into the room as casually as it physically knew how to (so not very). It let the door slide shut behind it, and for a moment, Ayda watched as it seemed like a whole day’s worth of tension halfway melted from its shoulders with a shuddering sound that wasn’t unlike a sigh.
“SecUnit,” Ayda greeted softly, her lips twitching into the ghost of a smile, “I didn’t think I’d see you until the end of the day. Weren’t you supposed to be helping Ratthi with something in his lab?”
