“Yes. We need your help studying what’s inside.”
“You mean the blood?” He frowned. “Are you sure you don’t have anyone better for this? Like, aren’t there doctors who spend their entire lives analyzing blood? Surely they’d be—”
He was cut off as a loud thud made him jump. For a brief second, an inhuman hand pressed against the glass. It had five long, thin fingers, with thin membranes stretching between each to make it webbed.
Grace gulped.

While searching for new sources of food they stumble upon a small mass, not quite a planet, and it has one life form reading.
They decide to go down and investigate and what greets them is a half man, half eel creature ready to tear Grace apart.

Ryland puts up no resistance as Simon pulls him under the water as gentle as can be. Simon can feel Ryland's heartbeat quicken under his fingers as he slides one of his hands up to Ryland's blonde hair to tug gently and expose his neck. Simon lowers his mouth to his neck and can feel the thrum of blood beneath the delicate skin. He feels Ryland shiver against him as he bites down without warning. His sharp canines pierce the flesh easily and blood blooms from the wound into Simon’s mouth and the water around them.

A siren bloodymary au that is set after the events of iron lung and on Grace and Rocky’s journey to Erid. I just wanted mermaid vampire Simon shenanigans and this happened. They are still in space though. This isn't all that canon divergent all things considered.
