“Shane, honey, I need you to take a breath, okay?” Yuna sighs through the phone. There’s a steady beep of Ilya’s heart monitor next to her and she watches it like a hawk as she listens to Shane break apart on the phone. She can hear him sobbing and gasping, wiping at his face but she knows there’s no stopping the tears at this point.
When she looks at Ilya in the hospital bed it causes a pain in her chest. His blond curls were pushed back from his face and the sterile hospital lighting made him look pale and expressionless. Yuna ran her thumb over where she held his hand as she kept listening to Shane.
“I just can’t believe it.” He cries and groans.
(ie. ilya is in a bad accident while in ottawa and shane is out of town and not able to be there for him and it really puts things into perspective. set post-engagement during the long game.)
