"Aerion?" Maekar's eyes had not left his second son. "Do you understand?"
Aerion stared at the mottled teardrop in his hands. It took all his strength just to hold it. He could not imagine a greater loss than withholding its name, but his father was wise and loved him, so Aerion begrudgingly agreed.
"Yes."
But he could not stop it. As he walked back around the long table to his seat, the name rushed to the surface of his mind.
Rhuqes.
Aerion and Dunk hatch a dragon.

“Denjiro, please, lift your head.” Though she did not voice this often, as she knew how deeply his loyalties were sown, she admittedly felt awkward whenever the man treated her in such a way. Hiyori had been a fugitive and a prostitute much longer than she had been royalty, after all, and she hated to feel above the man who she secretly considered a father. And it is only once Denjiro managed to return her gaze that she responded further.
“What has caused you such great distress, have we been… discovered?” Her voice is barely that of a whisper, fragile as the flap of a butterfly’s wing, as she voices that final word. As if just speaking it any louder would make it come true. Denjiro shakes his head softly at the notion, but does not look any happier even though the worst case scenario has been crossed off the list.
“No no… thankfully not. But, the reality is only slightly better.” He swallows, almost eager to choke on his own emotions, before delivering the news that would end up shaping the rest of Hiyori’s fate.
“Kaido has purchased you… as a bride for his son.”
