    “Well, I can’t have that,” Halbrand tells her, and he downs the rest of his draft before placing the empty glass back down onto the bar with a thud. He pulls out his wallet and pays for it. “I’d feel really bad if I left you stranded out here,” he starts to say, tucking his wallet back into his pocket, “so what’s our heading, princess?”

    Galadriel’s eyes grow wider, and she finally looks at him. “Our heading?” she asks, like she doesn’t know what he means when she does.

    Halbrand nods his head. “Yes, our heading. Where are we going next?”

    “We?”

    Halbrand meets her eyes, seeing the slight flush deepening the apples of her cheeks. Some of it’s alcohol. Some of it’s embarrassment. Some of it might just be because she finds him attractive if her little lip biting is anything to go by. “Yes,” he agrees firmly, “we. We’re out here together right now, aren’t we? Why not make the most of it?”

    Galadriel goes out drinking after a bad breakup, and Halbrand shows up to put all the pieces back together.

He’d looked across the crowded courthouse directly to the person who’d landed him in prison, and he hadn’t looked angry either.     Halbrand, heir to the throne of the Southlands, finds himself stranded in the middle of the ocean with only the old man Diarmid for a friend. That is, until they rescue Galadriel, Commander of the Northern Armies, from the bitter waters. Picked up by a Númenorean ship on its way home, the trio finds safety within the island kingdom. Galadriel will not let Halbrand forget his destiny, or avoid it.

    But the Shadow is once again stirring in Middle-earth, and when they discover that Halbrand is more than he seems, Galadriel is confronted with a painful past more intimately tied to Halbrand's future than either of them could have guessed. After the first two trials were less than a success, Galadriel has to pull out all the stops for the third and she does not like it, at all. For the third trial will not only test Sauron but her as well. Because for this most crucial one, she will have to live through a time where when Sauron asks her to join him, she tells him yes.
