Summary
Max Verstappen is a botanist who enjoys traveling alone to remote corners of the world in search of unique fern life.
During a trip to New Zealand, he meets Charles Leclerc, an independent photographer with no common sense, who jumps into the wilderness with only a camera and enough supplies for three days.
Out of humanitarian concern, Max reluctantly agrees to bring him along. At first, Charles’s endless questions annoy Max, who prefers the company of plants over people, but soon he finds himself drawn to Charles's boundless energy and creative mind.

Oscar's lip curled faintly. "You always like watching people unravel? You want me to go crazy?"
"No," Max responded. "I just recognize the signs."
They stood in silence. The garden around them swayed faintly in the wind. Somewhere in the distance, the sound of a fountain bubbled faintly—too soft to ground the moment.
Max took another step forward to Oscar.
"You're possessive," He said, like it was a fact. "You're still not sure yourself. But it's there."
Oscar stiffened. "You think you know me?"
"I don't need to know," Max said, and this time, his voice turned smoother. "I have seen what that kind of want becomes when it festers."
Lando smiled so much as a vampire that Oscar couldn’t ever be normal about it.
