What if Criston Cole was actually a Dornish sellsword from Essos, would events have happened differently? Would he stay loyal to Rhaenyra? Would the Dance have not happened?
Being a knight would have been the obvious answer for him to raise his family's ranks and make a name out of himself. Yet, Criston saw no reason to be knighted, albeit he had gotten offers before from previous employers. He simply did not see them worthy enough to swear his allegiance too, his childhood did not leave him to be attached to any country, and he enjoyed his worldly pleasures too much to make an oath.
And of course, being a sellsword also paid better when you had the right employer.
Those were his thoughts until he met a particular Targaryen Princess...
