    Summary

Two decades of performing the role of a functional adult is a grueling amount of work for anyone. For a disaster-waiting-to-happen like Dean Winchester? It’s a constant, white-knuckle strain of self-restraint. He needs Ozempic for the soul or some shit — a pharmaceutical-grade suppressant for his worst impulses. Instead, he has a dead father and a renovation project.

Going back home to sell the family place was supposed to be about fixing up a house, not a total identity collapse. But that best-laid-yet-not-thought-through plan is currently circling the drain for the sake of a bad habit named Castiel Novak. While Dean’s husband, Benny, is preoccupied with the aesthetics of domesticity, the guy they hired to do the roof (coincidentally, the love of Dean’s life) is busy reminding Dean exactly who he really is.

Dean knows logically that he should be protecting the life he built. Turns out, he’s holding the door open for the man who’s going to demolish it.

”Daniel had not known a moment of peace ever since that goddamn interview ended. He had gone into the ostentatious penthouse thinking that the worst thing that could happen to him was death; he hadn't accounted for Armand.”

—It's been five months since the interview with the vampire Louis, and Daniel is scheduled for a checkup with his physician. A certain someone in a slutty nurse costume crashes it.

Firefighter Dean Winchester is recovering from a work related injury that has left him with a broken leg, compromised lungs, and PTSD. He finds comfort in the knitting videos posted by a local knit shop owner, Castiel Novak. Dean’s therapist suggested that he take up a hobby during his recovery period. He enters the store thinking he’d take up the craft and leaves with the owner's number.

“Why does Dean often call me… unusual names?”

Sam blinked, unsure where this was going. “Unusual names?”

Castiel’s head tilted slightly. “‘sunshine.’, ‘huggy-bear.’ or ‘little angel.’’”

Sam rubbed a hand over his face, trying to mask his amusement. “Look, Cas, it’s… Dean’s way of showing he cares. He’s not exactly the best at straightforward feelings, you know? So he uses these nicknames instead.”

Cas looked thoughtful, his blue eyes distant as he turned this over in his mind. “I see. I had assumed he was mocking me. But if this is his method of expressing care, then perhaps I should reciprocate?”

Sam nearly choked on his own laugh but quickly covered it with a cough. “You mean call him something affectionate?”

“Yes,” Cas said, his tone serious. “If nicknames are a way to demonstrate affection, I should create some for Dean as well.”

    Summary

Castiel Novak and Dean Winchester have virtually nothing in common: they’re both from different countries (Cas would argue that Canada and the US aren’t that different but Dean begs to differ), they come from wildly different types of families, and where Castiel excelled at school Dean failed. When it comes to their social skills they’re also diametrically opposed: Dean is outgoing, funny and easy-going; Castiel is more of an introvert who likes books and still has to see any Star Wars movie.

In real life though, Castiel Novak and Dean Winchester are both professional soccer players with the same position in concurrent teams.

It would be complicated enough as it is, but Dean and Cas have also been a couple for several years, hiding their relationship from the public and homophobia in the world of soccer while living in Europe away from their families.

Can they make it through another season without cracking?
