There were too many, with the same debilitating affliction. In varying degrees of severity, from unresponsive hands, to full body paralysis. The latter of which begged to be put out of their misery. The water was the source of our suffering, poisoning all life around it. Soon, the gnawing hunger and thirst dulls the senses of many. Fury, fear and despair surfaces from the minds of once honorable beings. Now driven mad, cornered and forced to act.

Some unknown force has resulted in the disappearance of the Radiance, just before the infection could reach its peak under the Pale King's rule. The mystery soon takes a back-burner to a rearranged custody agreement over Herrah's brood, some clumsy attempts to re-establish marital trust, and some long overdue re-evaluations of the Pure Vessel. The king will send his newly unusable creation to train under the Great Knights, and become their sixth.
Court intrigue, sibling bonding, goddess hunting, different brands of motherhood, and accidental arson are abound.

“I’m working on it,” Kris says.

There was this day—cold, late March, wind still mean—that stuck in Noelle’s mind like a grain of rice behind the gums.
She’d ducked into the corner store after school. Her mom didn’t like her going there, said the magazines by the register were trash and the cashier had too many piercings. But Noelle wanted a soda. Something sweet, just for her.
Kris and Susie were there already. Neither of them saw her. They were standing by the fridges in the back, heads close together. Susie was laughing at something Kris said. Kris’s hands were in their pockets, a little hunched, but their shoulders relaxed in that way they never were around anyone else.
And it was nothing. It was two people in a corner store. They weren’t touching, weren’t kissing, weren’t anything. But it was everything.
Noelle left without the soda.

The war for Humanity's autonomy is over, the alien despots of Advent have been overthrown by Xcom and a new age is on the horizon. However, world changing events do not occur without a price. Power vacuums were created in Advent's absence, their alien pawns, once completely under control, now have found their own autonomy, the land and its people are forever changed by their presence. All that's left for Humanity and Xcom to do is pick up the pieces, rebuild, and decide what to do with their former enemies. In a successful city state, located in territory once called the United States, a young man, from humble beginnings, does NOT have the power to fix ANY of these problems. To be fair, it's a big job, and he has his own problems to deal with. Life in the city isn't easy, everyone has to contribute, even him. And it's hard to decide what you want your future to look like, especially in a world filled with so many possibilities, but perhaps his new job will give him some direction. Will he be driven insane by the mundane environment and monotonous labor? Probably. But, will he also meet someone who interests him enough to pull him out of his comfort zone?
