Summary
Early in Ted’s tenure as coach, Sam and Jamie end up as roommates during an away game. That night Sam discovers Jamie is suicidal after Jamie asks him to sit with him, feeling like he might kill himself if he’s left alone. Jamie thinks Sam will leave him be afterwards, but Sam can’t just let Jamie walk away knowing all this, it wouldn’t be right.
Sam’s attempt to look out for Jamie, even if Jamie thinks it’s not necessary, pushes him to become more confident and assertive, stepping up as a leader. Meanwhile, Jamie is pushed to be more open by Sam refusing to let him go on as if any of this is okay or normal. As their friendship develops, Jamie grapples with his childhood trauma, while Sam works through how he feels about becoming friends with someone who has bullied him in the past, as well as figuring out how to feel about the fact that Ted and Roy are imperfect people too, especially when it comes to how they approach Jamie.

Summary
“So how’d the whole meeting your former coach and teammates after dropping off the face of the earth 5 years ago thing go?”
Jamie paused, taking a deep breath in slowly and releasing it even slower, looking towards the ceiling like it would somehow make the next words out of his mouth less embarrassing to admit out loud. “I panicked, and introduced myself to them like they’d never met me.”
***
Five years after Jamie Tartt quits man city and disappears off the face of the earth, some of the players at AFC Richmond participate in an outreach program where they visit some local school, and mentor some of the children. These two events are a lot more connected than they first seem.

Summary
In 2015, in a city far from home after a Chelsea match, Roy goes out on the pull, hoping to scratch a very particular itch. And Roy was there in disguise, but Jamie was there, as Jamie.
In June 2022, Roy sits down with Dr Sharon for the first time, wondering if maybe he should come clean, after all this time, filling her in on all the ups and downs and everything in between over the years of these two tiptoeing around each other with secrets all over the place and feelings all blatant and up in each others faces.
So Roy is going to start, at the beginning and then he’ll meander all over the place, including to the bogs of G-A-Y, to Bake Off, to sitting side by side in the front of Jamie’s car because Roy doesn’t know how to use words when facing someone. He even puts his seatbelt on, just in case.
Ruth hopes Dr Sharon gives Roy a diagnosis or two.Bookmarked by IndigoAngel2

Summary
"Mum said puberty is going to hit me like a train any day now, so I thought I should learn a bit about sexual attraction now, before the hormones turn my brain to jelly. But it's all right, I'll just look it up on the intern—"
"NO," Roy barks. "Do not fucking look it up on the internet. We'll talk about it... later, all right? After dinner." He can cobble together a workable game plan by then. Or text his sister and make her take care of it. Either way.
"Okay," Phoebe agrees. "But if the puberty train hits before then, I'll be woefully unprepared and it will be all your fault."
