Summary
By the time they’ve reached the landing, Henry is shaking his arm out of Alex’s grip. “The picture of grace under fire,” he says, the words snapping from his mouth. Alex blinks at him, before his face smooths into its professional mask. “You can’t pick a fight with the Queen’s equerry, no matter how averse you are to the concept of the monarchy.”
Alex looks Henry up at down, his mouth forming a tight line. “I don’t pick fights, Your Majesty,” he says, adjusting his grip on Henry’s suitcase. Henry can’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of that statement. “Shaan called me a few weeks ago to go over every single thing that made you miserable about the holidays. It was a very long phone call.” Henry doesn’t doubt that. “I’m going to help you avoid as many of those items as possible.”

Alex’s hand shifts to play with the brim of his Stetson, thinking something over. In the next second, he’s grabbing it by the crown, removing it from his own head, and laying it on Henry’s. The hat is soft and though there’s a trace of sweat along the inner lining where it rests on his forehead, it smells like Alex—musky and wild.
“Looks good on you,” Alex remarks, approving of his new attire.
“I bet it does,” he responds, caught up in the moment, an undercurrent of arousal fluttering beneath his skin.
“Well, you know what they say,” Alex starts, pausing for emphasis. It has Henry swooning as he lays his accent on thick. “You wear the hat, you ride the cowboy. Think you’re up for the challenge, sweetheart?”

Henry shrugs. “I was told I can have a glass of wine with dinner.” He finishes his glass and sets it on the table, smiling at Alex with a warm little sparkle in his eyes. “Although it may cause sleepwalking, so you might want to check that the front door is locked.” He reaches up and flicks open the top button of his shirt. “Just in case.”
Alex chuckles, standing up to clear their plates. He presses a kiss to the top of Henry’s head as he passes the man. “Don’t worry, I’ll hold you close all night.”

Henry narrows his eyes, though the faint blush in his cheeks betrays him. “I’d enjoy it a lot more if you wouldn’t ruin it by getting dressed.”
