Hello! This is my first post, although I am a frequent visitor to this subreddit and have been for years. I have loved hockey all my life, but my real guilty pleasure is staying on top of all the behind the scenes gossip. As you can imagine, Scott Hunter kissing his boyfriend on the ice was a huge day for me!
I recently noticed something with Ilya Rozanov that I don’t think many other people have, and I decided to finally post about it here to see if anyone else shares my opinion. Every hockey fan I’ve talked to in my real life has brushed it off because Rozanov is known as such a womanizer, but I genuinely think he’s in some kind of serious long-term relationship.
Or the year before Ilya transfers to Ottawa, Shane and Ilya learn three things. Creating a charity is a fuck ton of work, coming out isn’t something you do just once, and the whole world seems to think Ilya Rozanov is in a committed relationship.Oh, and Ilya is addicted to Reddit hockey gossip.

Cliff doesn’t feel like he can ask, because “Him? Really? Why?” is a kind of a shitty return for the level of trust Roz has put in him. And Roz is a good friend. Maybe it’s a Russian thing, but once you’re in with him, you’re in. Under the chirpy asshole crap, he cares, he notices when you’re having a bad day and actually asks what’s up, and listens to the answer.
But Ilya Rozanov loves huge porterhouses dripping with herb butter at fancy steakhouses, lines of shots on the bar, fast cars, movies with lots of explosions. Shane Hollander is probably on some kind of nutritionally optimized, plant-based diet and turns the lights out by 9pm sharp after reading his daily 30 pages of nonfiction. Nonfiction about hockey.

Shane’s anxiety takes a quick backseat to annoyance once more, at being handled like a child instead of a grown man, like he hasn’t been doing this just as long as Ilya, like he needs someone to tell him when to take a break.
Like he deserved to have everything taken away from him because he couldn’t handle it to start with.
“I’m fine,” he says, voice icy.
The step he takes away is too big, farther than he meant to get from Ilya’s side, and the air between them feels both charged and icy.
He isn’t quite bold enough to try and fix it.

Rozanov gives him a sardonic smirk.
When Rozanov’s Russian team doesn’t want to let him return to the MLH after the 2012-13 lockout, Shane finds himself pulled into a harebrained scheme to make sure his rival is safe – and it might just work. Now he only has to navigate a secret pretend relationship while also facing the condensed MLH season. But needs must, right?
