Darcy Graves didn’t really expect to die. She expected to eventually of course, but she never really expected for it to happen directly after the ritual, and she never really expected that her mentor would be the one to kill her either.
What she definitely never expected was the Drifter turning her. Thanks to some mix of pity, boredom, and a desire for amusement he saved her. If you counted being turned into a blood sucking undead as ‘saved’ anyway.
Joining the ranks of those she was trying to honor wasn’t exactly ideal, but there were surely worse fates than being turned into an immortal undead, and it beat bleeding out in an alleyway. Infernus promised to inflict some of them on her if she ever scared her by showing up and bleeding on Jezebel’s floor again.

So when he accidentally becomes Agnes Tachyon's test subject for a concoction that temporarily turns you into an Umamusume, it isn't very surprising. Although while she has the opportunity, she might as well see what racing actually feels like. It's not like she's going to get stuck as an Uma or anything.

“S?” Kris whispered and the SOUL bobbed in an affirmative.
Kris had never tried to communicate with the SOUL directly like this. They didn’t want to. But as the SOUL drew an ‘A’ and an ’N’, Kris paused at the next ’S’ in the message.
Slowly, with great deliberation, the SOUL spelled out “HAS ONE HP.”
